The Traffic Sources tool is designed to provide a convenient way to analyze real data from your App Store Connect about installs, application page views and App Store interactions. By analyzing this data, you can understand how users are discovering your app, which marketing channels are driving the most traffic, and how effectively your app is converting views into downloads.
You will need to set up integration with App Store Connect before you can start working with Traffic Sources.
To access Traffic Sources, go to ASO Tools and select Analytics → Live Positions from the top menu:
In this tool, there are two primary graphs available for analysis: 'Product Page Views, Installations, CVR' and 'Impressions, Installations, CVR'.
The first graph, 'Product Page Views, Installations, CVR', shows how many users are viewing your app's product page, the number of installations resulting from those views, and the Conversion Rate (CVR), which indicates the effectiveness of your app page in converting views into downloads.
The second graph, 'Impressions, Installations, CVR', focuses on the total number of times your app is displayed (impressions) and correlates this data with the installations and CVR.
You can choose a time frame for your analysis by selecting from pre-defined periods or by setting a custom date range that meets your specific analytical needs.
Select different source types to gain insight into the channels that drive the most installs for your app.
Filter the data by selecting any of the available countries for a more localized understanding of your app's performance.
You can customize how the data is presented by toggling between graphical and tabular formats.
You also have the option to view the data on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, allowing for a more flexible analysis of your app's performance over time.
It is possible to toggle between viewing App Units and Installations to tailor your analysis according to your preferences:
- App Units - unique first-time downloads (one per unique user). Each user is counted as one App Unit, no matter how many devices they install it on or how many times they download it. For example, if a user installs your app on two separate devices, it will still be counted as one App Unit.
- Installations - total number of times the app is installed on devices. This metric includes all downloads, including re-downloads and installations on multiple devices. For example, if a user uninstalls the app and later reinstalls it, each of those actions counts as a separate installation.
Installations metric only includes data for users who have agreed to share their data. This means that sometimes the number of App Units can be more than the number of Installations.
Important:
App Store Connect has two types of Page Views: total number of views and unique views.
In Traffic Sources, we show unique Page Views. These are the number of views without repeats from the same device. This means that some users may have viewed the app page more than once, but we have taken this into account.
